Paikan adverbit

Paikan adverbit kertovat meille missä jotakin tapahtuu. Paikan adverbit sijaitsevat yleensä pääverbin jälkeen tai sen lauseen jälkeen, jota ne muokkaavat. Paikan adverbit eivät muuta adjektiiveja tai muita adverbejä. Seuraavaksi muutama paikan adverbi: here, everywhere, outside, away, around

Here ja There

Here ja there ovat yleisiä paikan adverbejä. Ne antavat sijainnin suhteessa puhujaan. Liikkeen verbeissä, here tarkoittaa "kohti puhujaa tai puhujan kanssa" ja there tarkoittaa "pois puhujasta tai ei puhujan kanssa".

Come here!	Come towards me.
The table is in here.	Come with me; we will go see it together.
Put it there.	Put it in a place away from me.
The table is in there.	Go in; you can see it by yourself.

Here ja there yhdistetään prepositioiden kanssa, jotta saadaan aikaan monia yleisiä adverbiaalifraaseja.

Here ja there laitetaan lauseen alkuun ja lauseessa käytetään huutomerkkiä, kun tarvitaan painotusta. Niiden jälkeen tulee verbi, jos subjekti on substantiivi tai pronomini.

Paikan adverbejä, jotka ovat myös prepositioita

Monia paikan adverbejä voidaan käyttää myös prepositioina. Kun niitä käytetään prepositioina, niiden jälkeen täytyy olla substantiivi.

on	We rode on for several more hours.	Please put the books on the table.
over	He turned over and went back to sleep.	I think I will hang the picture over my bed.

Paikan adverbit, jotka päättyvät -where ilmaisevat sijaintia, ilmoittamatta kuitenkaan tarkempaa sijaintia tai suuntaa.

Paikan adverbit, jotka päättyvät -wards

Paikan adverbit, jotka päättyvät -wards ilmaisevat liikettä tiettyyn suuntaan.

Huomioi: Towards on prepositio, ei adverbi, joten sen jälkeen on aina substantiivi tai pronomini.
