On olemassa joitakin adverbejä ja adverbaalisia ilmaisuja, jotka kertovat meille puhujan näkökannasta tai mielipiteestä suhteessa toimintaan, tai joka kommentoi toimintaa. Nämä adverbit eroavat muista adverbeistä, koska ne eivät kerro meille miten toiminta tapahtui. Näkökantaa ilmaisevat adverbit sijoitetaan lauseen alkuun, tai joskus harvemmin, lauseen loppuun. Ne erotetaan yleensä muusta lauseesta pilkulla. Mielipidettä ilmaisevat adverbit sijoitetaan ennen pääverbiä, ellei kyseessä ole verbi "to be", jolloin paikka voi olla joko ennen tai jälkeen verbin. Joissakin tapauksissa, ennen pääverbiä sijoitetut ja mielipidettä ilmaisevat adverbit, erotetaan muusta lauseesta pilkulla, vaikkakin yleensä näin ei ole.
